Youth Groups
In the next cohort, we will continue to offer mental health support to address depression, anxiety, trauma and eating disorders. Support groups designed exclusively for teenagers and college students. These groups will provide a virtual space to discuss the different challenges that come with getting older, being away from “home of origin”, starting a new school, experience at college and the difficulties that they face as students on a higher level and expectations from being in a multicultural family.
We are mindful that balancing these worlds as young adults is not easy while maintaining responsibilities. We will offer and encourage sharing experiences through art therapy, talk group support, play therapy and narrative therapy . At these meetings the team will come up with ways to give/receive mutual support, participants can navigate this journey together and be each other’s keeper but can also learn to practice healthy coping skills.
For our older students we will offer career counseling, resume building, and job support. This will include help with planning and scheduling that is meant to help them with study time and becoming more productive while also practicing self care. We will encourage the students to engage in traditional group, individual and family therapy. They will also learn to utilize peer support. We will also access outpatient support services.
They will talk through older teens and young adults and college life and offer resources and recommendations for psychoeducational purposes.
